Emerging applications for OCT in the head and neck
نویسندگان
چکیده
Methods We obtained OCT images of normal, benign, premalignant and malignant lesions in different areas of the head and neck. The OCT imaging system has a tissue penetration depth of approximately 1-2mm, a scanning range of 2mm and a spatial depth resolution of approximately 10-20μm. Imaging was performed using a flexible probe in two different situations, the outpatient clinic and the operating room.

OCT-4 Is a Good Predictive Biomarker for Local Recurrence in Head and Neck Basal Cell Carcinoma
Background and Aim: Basal cell carcinoma (BCC) is considered to be the most common malignancy in humans and occurs primarily in the skin especially in the head and neck region. Considering the high recurrence rate of the tumor, finding a marker for prediction of recurrence is very important. Cancer stem cells are a small subpopulation in the tumors that are related to tumorigenesis and recurren...
متن کاملClinical Applications of Optical Coherence Tomography in Ophthalmology
Assessment of the peripapillary nerve fiber layer and macular thickness can be determined in ophthalmology using optical coherence tomography (OCT). Decreased nerve fiber layer thickness and macular ganglion cell thickness in optic nerve ischemia have been correlated with visual field loss. OCT allows deep optic nerve head evaluation which helps understand pathophysiology of diseases. Furtherm...
متن کاملComparison of Absorbed Dose in Thyroid and Lens as Organs at Risk Between in vivo Dosimetry and 3-D Treatment Planning Calculation in Head and Neck Radiotherapy by Linac Beam
Introduction: Critical organs and structures may receive significant amounts of irradiation even if they are not the target of radiotherapy or located outside the treatment field. Although the sensitive thyroid gland and lens are not directly the targets of treatment, they can be affected by irradiation during the treatment of tumours in head and neck region. The purpose of thi...
متن کاملDiagnostic Utility and Efficacy of Conventional versus SurePath® Liquid-based Cytology in Head and Neck Pathology: A Study in an Indian Tertiary Care Hospital
Background and Objective: Liquid-based cytology (LBC) is an emerging pathological method for better establishment of the diagnosis in almost all the organs of the body. It is currently used both for the gynecological and non-gynecological (fine-needle aspirates (FNAs)/fluid) specimens in most of the developed and few developing countries. The current study aimed at a...
